Sulu wasn't exactly sure when he'd raised Ianto's hackles, but it was pretty obvious that, just like he'd gotten defensive over Starfleet, Ianto was getting defensive over this whole watch thing. He reached out before he thought about it, grabbing Ianto's arm and gently tugging him. "Hey man, it's not like it's super overpriced or anything. If that's something you want, then how's it silly?" After all, he wasn't really able to judge; he... had a thing about plants. At least watches were useful.
