Yeah, well. [Hrmph.] It's not exactly uncommon in this universe. It'll be useful to make stronger medication against reactions, anyway. [Ugh ugh his face is warm he's blushing isn't he, time to turn around and focus on his plants again. Plants never tease him.]

[God, absolutely perfect reaction, Jack's incredibly pleased with himself and his conversational tactics]

It's not exactly uncommon anywhere. That doesn't mean that it doesn't suck. Though... [He cocks his head at Sulu] Something in your reaction, and his for that matter, tells me that your allergic reaction wasn't the only excitement the two of you had that day. [It is very exciting, pollen aphrodisiac. From what he can remember, anyway. It's been a while]

We also almost got eaten by a wild animal the size of a small house. [Certainly Jack can't be considering any other excitement.]

[Jack's momentarily surprised by that. Ianto didn't share anything that might have suggested that he'd been in danger at any point during his time off]

...are you exaggerating, there, or did the pair of you actually almost get eaten by an alien animal? [You kept an eye on him when you were out there exploring that unknown planet, didn't you, Sulu? Jack's expression says you better have]

[Sulu gets the expression and grins. This is a topic he likes.] Ianto's the one who got us out of there the quickest. Got me to jump off a cliff into the ocean and everything.

[Jack hasn't forgotten about teasing you about the sex pollen, Sulu. He's just...momentarily distracted]

...Seriously? [Jack tries hard not to sound too surprised. He knows that Ianto's tough, and that he's a survivor if ever there was one, but. Sulu's also a trained military officer, and therefore. If Ianto really was the one to get them out of there the quickest, thinking fast on his feet and saving the pair of them, then. Jack's actually really impressed]

Well, we were both pretty intent on getting the hell away from it, but when it started charging, Ianto was the one who dragged us in the right direction. [Of course, Ianto had also tripped, but. That isn't a problem - Sulu's tripped running from space bears, Ianto's allowed to trip while being chased by a vicious elephant seal thing.]

Try not to sound so surprised.

Hey. [Jack makes a face in response to Sulu's pointing out of his doubting Ianto] You know Ianto. You can't tell me that you wouldn't be surprised too if you found out that he was the one to get the pair of you to safety when push came to shove. You're the one with the Starfleet training, after all.

Yeah, but Starfleet training just makes you know how to decide when things are a "run away" situation or a "fight it out" situation. Ianto put that into practice. [He grins - he's honestly proud of Ianto for being able to use his flight-or-fight reaction so well.]

So let me get this straight. You got chased by a giant alien animal, you jumped off a cliff, and you had fun with alien sex pollen? [Because he's pretty sure that that's what it was, considering Ianto and Sulu's reactions] All in the same day?

[He whistles, shaking his head] Boy, did I miss out...

[Sulu can sort of feel his blush returning, so he just grins a little and shrugs.] There's a reason people sign up for Starfleet. We have the most exciting vacations this side of Delta Vega.

Vacations that, from the way that Scotty describes it to me, don't happen nearly often enough. Am I right?

That's very much the truth. But, you don't really go into the military for the vacation time, right?

Not where I'm from, at least. Though I think that's pretty much a timeless universal.

You enjoyed yourselves, though, I hope. Despite all the curve balls you had thrown at you? It'd be a pity to've wasted those two days, on a gorgeous sandy beach. I know I certainly made the best of my time there, that's for sure. Hopefully the pair of you did too. [Grin]

[Sulu rolls his eyes, but he's definitely amused.] Scotty got over suddenly being a different gender then, I'm guessing? Well, for the first time.

Yeah. [A chuckle] It took a bit of persuading, but. Not as much as you might think. He was surprisingly less stubborn about accepting the gender difference than...I don't know, say... Ianto.

Ianto's a lot more stubborn than Scotty is in general. [Not that Sulu minds it.]

Yeah, well. He is that. He definitely is that... [And they've run full-circle in their conversation. Jack sighs]

What am I supposed to do here, Sulu? I'm not good at this. He's not great at it either. The two of us together... [He shakes his head] God, we must make the most dysfunctional pair of people ever.

[Sulu shrugs.] I doubt it, but. I don't know. Maybe just... try to leave the lines of communication open? You guys don't have to discuss everything that ever happens, you know. You just have to be able to do it when it's necessary. Otherwise, I'm going to have to keep mediating, and so far, that's only worked out... what, once?

Once is more times than it's worked without a mediator... [Jack runs a hand through his hair, frustratedly]

...he threw me out. He literally threw me out. Closed the door in my face and everything. I thought that sort of thing only happened in television and movies.

Maybe he's been watching too many movies. [Sulu's tone is wry, before he falls to questioning Jack about the situation.] What... made him kick you out, exactly?

[Jack shrugs, but he's quiet for a moment, thinking back on it] We were talking. About not talking. [Arguing actually, but whatever] I tried to talk. He said he didn't want to. I pushed it. He's always after me to talk to him, and there I was making a point to do so, and he wasn't following suit. He told me that he couldn't deal with me, and threw me out. [Another shrug. There were more words exchanged, obviously, and some of them not entirely kind to each other, but that was the gist of it.]

[Sulu sighs and chews on his lip a little. It didn't sound like the best attempt at discussion ever, that was for sure.] I'm sorry about that. I should have probably realized him being exhausted was only going to make things worse.

Yeah, well. I should've too, but I didn't. Still. God, he's not usually this... [He trails off for a moment] He's never thrown me out, before. I'm not. I'm not really sure what to make of it, honestly. He's not usually one for grand gestures of much of anything, really. I don't... [Okay, yes. Jack's a little lost as to how to handle this situation]

...I hate to say it, but I really think he was just being melodramatic. [Sulu shrugs.] I don't think he meant anything by it, just... it was the quickest thing he could think of to do, I guess.
