[Jim turned to give Sulu a look that questioned the efficiency of his mental facilities -- as if Jim, in his current state of assumption, were in any place to do so. He scrutinized for a moment and finally shook his head.] Only because Bones is straight! [It was the cheapest come back he'd managed in a long time, so he tried to qualify it. Tried and failed miserably.] I wasn't overreacting, I was ... Why did you tell him that? [Suddenly he was looking at McCoy.] That was between you and me, you didn't have to -- You weren't supposed to tell him.

God damn it Jim! [McCoy said in frustration, silently cursing Sulu's attempt to help. Spoiler: It didn't.]

I didn't- I- That's it! [McCoy snapped, pointing his finger angrily.] I was talking to Sulu about how I'm a damned good friend, because I am, and how he's a damned good pilot and crew member because she- he is. That you'd remember that and forgive him. You're a big part of my god damned life and that's what friends talk about for Christ's sake! You're-

[He threw his hands up in frustration. Being drunk was hard.]

[If Sulu had been trying to help, he would have left. No, he was in the mood to scream and shout and make everyone realize that he was generally upset with a lot of things right now.] I'm not going to sleep with McCoy, you... you idiot! And both of you need to shut up! It's my turn to be loud and angry, damn it!

[STOP GETTING HYSTERICAL, BITCH. Deep breath.] Sorry, sorry, I'm - sorry. I'm just - [He shook his head (not that that ever helps when you're drunk) and held up his hands. Three steps forward,] I'm just going to leave and you guys can scream about how you're friends and do your miscom- misconsep-..., whatever, I don't care.

[Leaving would be a lot easier if he hadn't kind of listed into Jim instead of the door.]

[Jim was a bro, even when he was angry, so he caught Sulu before she could fall from the unintentional contact. He held onto her shoulders, shifting his attention to her to pacify her.]

Listen to me, Mr. Sulu. You're not going anywhere alone in this condition. [He wouldn't voice it, but he didn't think he really needed to point out that there were several hundred sexually repressed men on this ship and ~Demora~ would be an easy target to take advantage of. Heaven forbid she turn back into a he overnight. His attention shifted back to McCoy.] You're a good friend, okay? I didn't even ... realize this was up for debate. And, you, [He was looking at Sulu.] are the best pilot we have, so you'd better damn well know it. Neither of you should need to come get drunk to know this shit.

[McCoy sort of watched the whole thing the way an amoral drunken man would watch a horrible train wreck. He looked at Jim, pursed his lips to the side as he spoke and yeah ok, I mean he knows that but sometimes Jim makes him act like a highschooler. That and alcohol. Lord he was tired.]

Close the door. [Was the door open? I don't remember but McCoy is drunk so fuck you.] Just, come in will you? Sh- He can sleep here, the last thing the ship wa- needs is... is it's captain dragging a drunk girl back to Sulu's room.

[Sulu was kind of concerned that he couldn't keep his balance but you know what, at least both of them were distracted by him being a retard than by them... being really immature. Whatever.] I just need to sober up before I go back to my room. [And turn back into a man. That would be awesome.]

A drunk woman spending the night in your room isn't going to look any better, Bones. You really think anyone's going to miss the walk of shame tomorrow morning? [All the same, he guided Sulu back over to the bed, sitting her down. He was mildly bitter about the arrangement, but he managed to keep it from showing. Jim was the master of repression.] Fine. It's your reputation.

Don't give me that. [Sorry Sulu, McCoy's kind of forgetting you're there. Kirk is an attention whore.] What the hell is your problem now? I thought we went over that fact that Sulu is a friend and that doesn't mean I'm ditching you- considering how much I've proven I'm apparently incapable of that.

[Sulu pinched the bridge of his nose, but it was definitely more to try and clear his eyesight than out of exasperation. He had screamed it out and was now feeling perfectly zen, settling back on McCoy's bed. He was intent on sobering up and going back to his room, and he might as well watch the show.]

Excuse me for not being fully prepared to walk into your room and see you ... fraternizing with my helmsman! [Jim looked more belligerent than he was probably allowed to be while sober, but whatever.]

Fraternizing? [McCoy threw his hands up in exasperation.] We were having a drink your highness, and what does it matter to you who I 'fraternize' with?

It ... [fumbling for words] It matters, okay! [He's pacing a little, but he stops after a moment to add,] Oh, and "having a drink" on your bed alone in your room is fraternizing, by the way. It's like ... the definition, okay?

God damn it Jim, if you're going to treat me like some... [yeah he doesn't even know what to say there. He just continues on in frustration.] some traitor I at least have the right to an explanation! And I suppose all the times we've had a drink, or any other damned bar crawl with a friend was fraternizing?

[He opened his mouth to defend with 'on your bed alone,' but he could think of at least twice he'd passed out on McCoy's bed in the academy, so that was ... actually a shitty argument. His expression contorted briefly as he tried to come up with something.] I'm not calling you a traitor! I never said that! It's ... stupid, I'm not having this conversation in front of Sulu, I've already told you everything I'd have to say anyway. [Moodily, he looks away, suddenly becoming interested in the carpet.]

[McCoy gave Jim a long look before looking at Sulu, twisting his expression somehow between sheepish and mostly irate before looking back to Jim again.] Bullshit you have. [He walked over to the desk, pouring himself another glass and lifting an empty one to Jim.] Care to 'fraternize' captain?

[Sulu gave McCoy a completely innocent and vaguely sleepy look. Oh, no, he's not just watching the two older, higher ranking crewmembers bitch at each other like a highschool couple.

The comment that came out of McCoy's mouth when he went for the alcohol, though, that made him laugh like an idiot.] Don't stop fighting because I'm here! But fraternizing is more fun. [:)?]

[He looks between Sulu and McCoy for a moment, then walks to the desk and grabs the glass from McCoy, pouring a fifth into it with something between a smile and the remnants of his earlier disgruntled look.] As a matter of fact, I consider fraternizing to be what I do best.

[When McCoy became sober he would forever regret that comment, but at the moment Jim had finally shut up and Sulu was laughing for whatever reason. He didn't know, they were idiots, he was surrounded by idiots but it was a fate he had accustomed himself to.] That or being a god damned brat. [He muttered, sitting next to Sulu.]

[Sulu wasted little time in nudging McCoy with his elbow. Why do you have to push when we're at a delicate stage in this whole... situation? God, you're awful. That kind of nudge. Then, obviously, he directed his attention to Jim,] I'm sorry, Captain, I didn't mean to upset you by being here. Do you want to sit?

It's not a big deal, Sulu, don't worry about it. And, I think I would like to, thanks. [Instead, he took a seat on the bed directly beside Sulu, slouching back some and taking a drink from his glass.]

[Sulu shifted over towards McCoy before deciding that probably wasn't going to help with the still kind of tense situation. This. Was really awkward. Not to mention sitting up was kind of difficult when he was really starting to feel warm and sleepy.

You know, this whole listing-over into the bed - that was being occupied by Jim, but whatever - was pretty satisfying. Sleep was probably going to be pretty satisfying in general.]

[Jim looked down at the girl who was suddenly very much in his lap and just managed a sigh, quickly draining his glass and handing it over to Bones; apparently he was incredibly used to this.] Guess she's tapping out.

Looks like it. [He grabbed the glass, glancing at Sulu with a raised brow. How this happened he would never wrap his mind around.] And what are we supposed to do with her- him?

Mnn. [Sulu grumbled and almost sat up again out of spite, but he was way too tired to bother.] Not asleep yet. And just... wake me up in ten minutes, I'll... go back to my cabin.

[Absently, Jim stroked her hair in a reassuring way more than a petting way.] Yeah, of course you aren't. I'll tell you what you're not doing yet is going anywhere. You're way too hammered.
