It was hard for Sulu not to feel pretty self-satisfied at Ianto's compliment, though he knew that the only reason he'd even gone for this style was because Ianto had said it looked good on the pageant thread, and the only reason it really fit was because Gwen helped him figure out the different sizes (things changed a lot in over 200 years, after all). Then again, he did sort of like the casual-dress sort of thing that was going on with it, antiquated as it might have been.
At Ianto's question, Sulu beamed, moving from bashful cool guy to nerdy plant guy without missing a beat. "Yeah, it chimes - it's fine to touch, too. I wouldn't want to give you anything toxic. It's a subspecies of the Talosian singing plant; it's a dwarfed version, actually, just a little interbreeding with the right kinds of Earth plants and..." He bit his lip, still grinning a bit, clearly embarrassed by his little slip.
"I thought you might like it. The leaves - on Talos IV, the wind's always blowing, and the plant vibrates with it, making that chiming noise. Otherwise, it's quiet, so... It won't keep you up, or anything." He paused, then added, "This subspecies is neat because it gets more vibrantly colored, the warmer it is. That's why it's nothing spectacular right now."
