I hate to say it, but he does have a sort of point - I mean, you don't think about it until someone mentions it. Not that it's not your idea. [Sulu sighs.] It doesn't help that he was already tired, that's for sure. But, I'm still... [He frowns and shakes his head,] I'm still disappointed in Ianto. He said he'd try to listen.

Yeah, well. He didn't. [Jack rubs a hand over his face, sighing] I guess you're right, though. About him being tired. He'd been at work for a while, and he's not always at his best when he's sleep deprived. Still though... He really pisses me off, sometimes.

Yeah, well. [Sulu shot Jack a grin, though it was a little less than his usual caliber of cheerfulness.] He still keeps us coming back for more, irritating or not. For good reason, too.

Yeah, well. Sometimes I wonder if it's worth it or not...

You don't really mean that. [Sulu states it more like fact than anything - Ianto can be a chore sometimes, okay, he knows that, but. ...He was Ianto.]

Don't I? [Jack runs his hands over his face. No, he doesn't really mean it. But he is upset with Ianto at the moment, and that means that he's up for saying anything he so desires about it]

I know I'm not good at this. And he knows it too. [He pauses for a moment, before:] But I'm trying. The least he can do is acknowledge it...

I'm sure he knows that you're trying. He's just... kind of an idiot when it comes to these kinds of things. But that doesn't mean you should give up on him. [He moves down the workbench a little to check a plant sealed in a glass tube.] He's going to feel kind of like an ass for having kicked you out once he's got more sleep in him. But that's his thing. Neither of you are good with communication. [He chuckles a little,] I'm not even that great at it, myself. It's just going to take time and willingness, I guess. [Like he's one to talk, not talking about the occasional moods he gets.]

Yeah, well. I've got all the time in the world, so. At least there's that, I guess. So long as he's got the time as well...

He does now. Thanks to you having all the time. And he knows that.

Does he? And you know that for a fact, then, do you?

[Sulu gives him a slightly bemused look.] He has to. He knows how we got him back, and he knows it's because of you we could do it at all.

But he doesn't know that. Does he? [He turns to look at Sulu.] Not unless you told him. He just thinks that it's the amulet...

[Sulu can't really remember whether or not he'd told Ianto about how the amulet worked. He doesn't think about it enough to know for sure.] ...I don't know. I... haven't told him a lot about anything like that.

Then he probably doesn't know much about anything in regards to that. Because I certainly haven't told him much about it either.

[It's Sulu's turn to pinch the bridge of his nose, closing his eyes briefly before looking to the readouts offered to him on the contained plant.]

Like I said, [he says, wryly,] I'm not great at communication myself.

[Jack sighs, heavily] D'you think he minds? That the pair of us are...well. That we haven't told him much about anything that happened during that time?

I don't know what he minds, most of the time. He hasn't said anything, so I don't know. Probably not. I'm not even sure he wants to think about it, let alone talk about it. [He makes a face at the readouts,] God knows I don't.

[Jack's silent for a moment, before speaking up again]

...d'you think that we should, though? Even if we don't want to? [God knows, there are lots of topics that Jack hasn't wanted to discuss with Ianto, but he's had to out of necessity]

I mean. It was kind of a big thing...

That's an understatement. [Still. Sulu knows that they really probably should at least try to approach talking about it, but...] How would we even propose talking about it? "By the way, Ianto, did you know I had to shoot Jack to fill up your amulet's tank of magic?" [He rolls his eyes, knowing that he's being flippant but not really caring. Jack saw what he was like - it's not as though he's very good with these things.] We probably should, but. Ianto needs to make some kind of first move, I guess.

[Jack snorts] Yeah, like that'd ever happen... He's probably the most retroactive person I know. For all we know, he could want to talk about it, and just be waiting for us to do so. Which is stupid, all things considered. But not really surprising.

[Jack has a point, but Sulu's... Sulu's not one to bring up things that are sure to make everyone depressed. He doesn't want to do that to Ianto.]

I don't even know if I could talk about it, honestly. You... saw how I was. Am, sometimes. [He's very careful to not look at Jack for that.]

[Jack nods, looking down at the ground. He remembers that time, remembers Sulu's refusal to let himself grieve, remembers his unfailing drive to get Ianto back after, no matter the cost] Yeah...

...I think he should know, though. I'm not sure that he realizes...y'know. How much of an effect he has on us. [He isn't quite sure how to express it to Ianto, but. He's starting to think if Ianto might listen, might pay more attention to them, might care for himself more, if... If he knew]

[Sulu sighs.] By all means, you tell him how much you love him, and I'll follow suit.

[And... not the right words there - well, they were, but that's the effect he has on Sulu and he doesn't doubt it's the same for Jack. Still, he's going to play that off as smoothly as he can.]

[A muscle twitches in Jack's jaw, and he falls silent for a moment. There are reasons why he hasn't told Ianto as much yet, even if they don't make sense. Everyone he loves dies, and maybe if he doesn't admit to the fact that he loves them, then they'll stand a chance. But Ianto died already, wouldn't that make him exempt? Like hell Jack wants to find out]

That wasn't what I meant. [Well. Not exactly. Although he supposes it is, when they get down to the heart of the matter]
