I don't know what he minds, most of the time. He hasn't said anything, so I don't know. Probably not. I'm not even sure he wants to think about it, let alone talk about it. [He makes a face at the readouts,] God knows I don't.
[Jack's silent for a moment, before speaking up again]
...d'you think that we should, though? Even if we don't want to? [God knows, there are lots of topics that Jack hasn't wanted to discuss with Ianto, but he's had to out of necessity]
That's an understatement. [Still. Sulu knows that they really probably should at least try to approach talking about it, but...] How would we even propose talking about it? "By the way, Ianto, did you know I had to shoot Jack to fill up your amulet's tank of magic?" [He rolls his eyes, knowing that he's being flippant but not really caring. Jack saw what he was like - it's not as though he's very good with these things.] We probably should, but. Ianto needs to make some kind of first move, I guess.
[Jack snorts] Yeah, like that'd ever happen... He's probably the most retroactive person I know. For all we know, he could want to talk about it, and just be waiting for us to do so. Which is stupid, all things considered. But not really surprising.
[Jack nods, looking down at the ground. He remembers that time, remembers Sulu's refusal to let himself grieve, remembers his unfailing drive to get Ianto back after, no matter the cost] Yeah...
...I think he should know, though. I'm not sure that he realizes...y'know. How much of an effect he has on us. [He isn't quite sure how to express it to Ianto, but. He's starting to think if Ianto might listen, might pay more attention to them, might care for himself more, if... If he knew]
[Sulu sighs.] By all means, you tell him how much you love him, and I'll follow suit.
[And... not the right words there - well, they were, but that's the effect he has on Sulu and he doesn't doubt it's the same for Jack. Still, he's going to play that off as smoothly as he can.]
[A muscle twitches in Jack's jaw, and he falls silent for a moment. There are reasons why he hasn't told Ianto as much yet, even if they don't make sense. Everyone he loves dies, and maybe if he doesn't admit to the fact that he loves them, then they'll stand a chance. But Ianto died already, wouldn't that make him exempt? Like hell Jack wants to find out]
That wasn't what I meant. [Well. Not exactly. Although he supposes it is, when they get down to the heart of the matter]
I meant that he should know about what it was like for us, that time. When he was dead, and then when he was recovering. Because I'm not sure that he really knows...how much of an effect he has on us. But if you really want to put it like that, then. [Jack sighs, shifting awkwardly, aware that Sulu's looking at him now]

[He pauses, running a hand through his hair, taking a breath] You were the one who told me that I should try talking to him. I could repeat your sentiments and say that we were doing well enough without trying. I mean, seriously. Look where it got me. [He throws his hands up, motioning at himself and the situation he's found himself in]
Talking about being able to say, "Hey, I'm exhausted, let's call it a night," isn't the same as talking about this. But you're right. I'm being hypocritical. [Sulu has no problem realizing that when he needs to.] ...We'll just have to find the right time. Or, a time, I guess.
A time would probably be right. I'm not sure there ever really will be a right time. Or a time where it'll be any easier. Hell, who knows if there'll even be a time where we'll get him to sit down and listen, for that matter.
God, all of this is just so... [Jack sits back in his chair and runs a hand over his face, not really able to find the right word to describe it] Why does it have to be so difficult?
Yeah, well. That doesn't stop it from being a pain in the ass, nonetheless.
[He falls silent for a moment, thinking silently, before he speaks up again] How are you, Sulu? [A complete change in the topic of conversation, but Jack's just realized it's been a while since they've spoken, and he'd like to direct things away from his own problems, even if it's only for a few moments]
[Not the best answer, but Sulu's momentarily thrown for a loop by the sudden topic change. He gives Jack a grin, more honest than before.] You know me. I'm good so long as I've got a ship to fly and plants to take care of.
I take it that that means that you've had both of those things lately, then? Judging by the surroundings, you've got at least one of the things covered. [Jack pauses, before grinning slightly]
Speaking of plants, actually. Ianto tells me that you're allergic to a certain type of them, then? [Oh yes, averting the attention from his current relationship problems by trying to embarrass Sulu instead, on of Jack's favorite tactics, here]
[Jack tries hard not to smile too wide at Sulu's reaction, there. He doesn't want to piss the other man off, after all. Just poke fun a little bit]
He told me some. I kind of figured out the rest on my own. [Okay, so his grin widens again] Hell of a thing to be allergic to, let me tell you that much...
Yeah, well. [Hrmph.] It's not exactly uncommon in this universe. It'll be useful to make stronger medication against reactions, anyway. [Ugh ugh his face is warm he's blushing isn't he, time to turn around and focus on his plants again. Plants never tease him.]

[Jack's momentarily surprised by that. Ianto didn't share anything that might have suggested that he'd been in danger at any point during his time off]
...are you exaggerating, there, or did the pair of you actually almost get eaten by an alien animal? [You kept an eye on him when you were out there exploring that unknown planet, didn't you, Sulu? Jack's expression says you better have]
[Sulu gets the expression and grins. This is a topic he likes.] Ianto's the one who got us out of there the quickest. Got me to jump off a cliff into the ocean and everything.
