About halfway down the stairs by that point, Sulu started mentioning moving walkways and Ianto picked up the speed down the stairs. Ianto had always been one of the types to walk as normally as he usually did on a moving walkway, enjoying the feeling of moving exactly as he would on the ground but getting there faster on the walkway. He normally loved that slightly uneasy feeling where your mind was telling you your body didn't usually move that fast when doing something as simple as walking. Now, however. Upon the mention of moving walkways, it inevitably triggered his vertigo more than before, which due to the nausea was really not anything good.
He realized he should say something in response. That's what he normally did, respond to things, and he wanted to keep pretending that he was alright, that everything was fine, that he didn't feel as horrible as he felt in that moment. He also realized that if he opened his mouth and started talking and wasn't able to swallow at regular intervals, he wasn't going to make his goal of getting down the stairs before what was now practically inevitable was going to happen. So instead he said, "Hm." And swallowed. "Must be nice." And promptly kept his mouth shut.
