Log with Scotty: Everybody's Square

Despite the fact that Sulu knew that Jack and Ianto had sorted things out between themselves, and he'd heard from Ianto that Scotty had sorted things out with them, Sulu still had the feeling that he was leaving something undone. It was probably the fact that since he'd called Scotty, he really hadn't heard anything from his side.

Deciding that it was about time he visited the other man, to see how he was now that things were figured out - and more than that, he figured he should see if Scotty was really as okay with this as he seemed to be. So, after his shift was over and once he'd sorted out his botany projects for the day, he headed down to Scotty's cabin to pay him a visit, hoping he was there as he knocked on the door.

After all, even if he was completely fine with how everything was - that didn't mean they could talk about it.

"Nah, s'fine. C'mon in." He paused a moment then, his brow furrowing. "Audrey?" Sulu hadn't told him about that particular plant, which left Scotty trying to remember if there was a person named Audrey that he ought to know, maybe someone Sulu had mentioned before. But nothing was coming to mind, and Scott was still waking up and really it'd just be best to let Sulu elaborate.

Sulu let himself in as Scotty paused to figure out if he knew who Audrey might be, before casually mentioning, "It's my man-eating tentacle monster. I keep it sort of on the down-low though." He'd told Jim, McCoy and Chekov about it once, but that was a long time ago now. "I haven't fed it actual meat so it's pretty docile, but it gets sort of grabby if I don't feed it on time. I get literally wrapped up."

Turning, he grinned, trying not to let much of that sink in before continuing, "So, how are things?"

"You have a man-eatin' tentacle monster. That doesn't actually eat people. That gets... grabby." Too late. It was very much sinking in, and Scotty was pretty sure that he didn't want to accidentally run across this Audrey. "Where is it so I know how t'avoid it?" So much for finding out right away how things were going with Scotty.

"The botany lab." Sulu feigned innocent curiosity, looking around the room. "Though, given his growth rate, he might start getting his tentacles into the airvents. How far down are we from the lab, right now?"

Yeah. Making people fear his plants was way higher on Sulu's list of priorities than talking about Scotty's feelings.

"If I wake up in the middle o' the night one day t'find this Audrey o' yours gettin' grabby at me in my own quarters..." He didn't really think Sulu would let the tentacle monster plant thing get in the air vents, but it was much more entertaining to play along.

Crossing back over to his couch, he piled a few of his journals off to one side to clear a space for Sulu, wondering vaguely what time it was and whether or not it was too early to offer him a drink.

Sulu laughed, "I think you're safe. He can only barely reach across the lab, as it is. And he'll probably be moving to Torchwood soon enough." Which brought him back to his main point. He took the space when Scotty cleared it for him, dropping his elbows on his knees and putting his head in his hands. (It was never too early in space to be ready for it to be the end of the day, as it appeared.) "Which brings me back around to, how are things?"

He shrugged, settling back against the couch. "Talked t'Ianto. Talked t'Jack. Worked things out." Glancing over at Sulu, he added, "An' I probably owe you an apology, too. I handled the whole thing badly, an' I'm sorry."

Sulu waved a hand. "Nah, don't worry about it. So long as things are figured out, I don't really need an apology." He really didn't think he had gotten involved enough for one. "But I wanted to make sure that things were actually worked out. That you were okay with how things were, and all that."

It had, admittedly, taken a bit of time to get used to the idea. But having had a few days to think it over and having talked to Ianto about it both had helped. Talking to Jack, getting things sorted out there, had really just been the final step in accepting it. "It's... it's different, I'll admit," he said, after a moment. "But aye, I'm alright with it."

Sulu leaned back and crossed his arms behind his head, smiling at Scotty easily. "Good. After all, I'm sticking to my opinion that you're good for Jack." Not that Ianto wasn't, but Ianto couldn't always pick up the pieces. Scotty was separate from Torchwood - he could be more easily confided in, he figured.

"Aye, well. I don't know about all that," Scotty said, smiling a little self-consciously. It was nice to hear, though. Made him feel like his reasons for sticking with Jack weren't entirely selfish. (Not that they were anyway, but that was beside the point.)

Sulu almost said that he thought Jack was good for Scotty as well, but he wasn't sure how the other would take that, after everything that had happened. So instead, he went on to say, "I am sorry I didn't tell you about it. I really didn't think twice - I think I'm too used to the situation."

Scotty probably would have agreed, really. He might not have been very confident about whether or not he was good for Jack, but he couldn't deny the fact that being with Jack was doing him some good, even in spite of everything that had happened recently. "Nah, don't apologize for it. It's no' your fault."
